Which one to look for
A GT Premium appearance and equipment package marking sixty years of the Mustang, offered on coupe or convertible with either transmission. Brittany Blue, a colour first seen in 1967, was revived for it, along with 20-inch wheels carrying stamped aluminium centre caps modelled on the 1965 car's and a numbered dash plaque.
A new nameplate rather than a revived one, which is rare for a modern Mustang. 500hp from the same 5.0 with a forged crank and connecting rods and reinforced camshafts, plus standard MagneRide, larger front Brembos, a 3.73 axle, Pirelli P Zeros and the Tremec TR-3160 six-speed inherited from the GT350. Car and Driver ran a manual car to 60mph in 4.1 seconds and through the quarter in 12.5 at 115mph.
Track-only, not road registrable, and the car of the IMSA-sanctioned single-make Mustang Challenge series. Ford Performance revised the wheels, tyres, clutch, flywheel and suspension for 2025. Forty of them ran a support race at Le Mans that June.
The Shelby GT500's successor in everything but name. The supercharged 5.2 makes 795hp and 660 lb-ft, hand-assembled by a single technician at Dearborn Engine, and drives through a Tremec TR-9070 seven-speed dual-clutch and a 3.73 Torsen differential. No manual is offered. Priced from $103,490 before destination.
The entry car, and the only S650 with no manual option at all. The 2.3 turbocharged four makes 315hp and 350 lb-ft through the ten-speed automatic, Ford having dropped the manual because fewer than one in ten S550 EcoBoost buyers had taken one. Remote Rev works on this engine when the active exhaust is fitted.
The volume V8 and the car most people mean. The fourth-generation 5.0 Coyote gains a twin throttle-body intake and makes 480hp, or 486hp with the active exhaust, through either the six-speed Getrag MT82-D4 manual or the ten-speed automatic. Coupe or convertible; the electronic drift brake comes with the Performance Pack.
Not really a Mustang in the ordinary sense. 815hp and 664 lb-ft from a supercharged 5.2 driving an eight-speed dual-clutch transaxle at the rear through a carbon fibre driveshaft, semi-active inboard pushrod rear suspension developed for the GT3 race car, Multimatic adaptive spool valve dampers that move from soft to firm in 15 milliseconds, and a window in the rear bulkhead so you can watch it work. $325,000 base, bodies finished by Multimatic in Markham, Ontario. It lapped the Nurburgring in 6:52.072 in May 2025, the first American production car under seven minutes.
